Friends of NRA is comprised of more than 700 volunteer committees nationwide, each dedicated to organizing impactful fundraising events in their local communities. Every year, one outstanding committee is honored with the prestigious Committee of the Year award. In 2024, the Falls of the Ohio Friends of NRA Committee from Borden, Indiana—led by Chairman Pete Neiman and Treasurers Joe Fackler and Jennifer Crum— was awarded this recognition.

“This committee has become a gold standard in our program,” said Sarah Engeset, Director of Volunteer Fundraising. “They’re recognized nationwide for their energy, consistency, and record-breaking achievements. Every year, we eagerly watch what incredible numbers they’ll pull together—and every year, they raise the bar even higher. Since their start in 1999, this committee has raised more than 3 million dollars in support of the NRA Foundation and our mission to Teach Freedom. And even with all their success, they never stop working, never stop improving, and never stop leading by example.”

They recently hosted an impressive 2025 event that welcomed 1,000 guests and was supported by a dedicated team of 100 volunteers. Thanks to their tireless efforts, this event netted over $240,000 — funds that will directly benefit both local and national shooting sports initiatives. The evening featured appearances from several notable guests, including NRA Executive Vice President & CEO Doug Hamlin, master competitive shooter Julia Watson Carlson, and NRA Board Members Charlie Hiltunen and Craig Haggard.

A highlight of the evening was the live auction where the Guitar Signed by Lee Brice —part of the 2025 Standard Package—emerged as the night's top-selling item. Other sought-after items included a Val Kilmer autographed print and replica Stetson hat from Tombstone, as well as an ACME Custom Target Rifle chambered in .223 Wylde.

The key to this event’s extraordinary success lies in the strength and unity of the committee. Their teamwork, combined with the event’s outstanding reputation, has created such demand that there’s a wait list for tickets!

Looking ahead, the Falls of the Ohio committee is preparing for their exciting Gunapalooza event this fall, expected to draw another 500 attendees and raise an additional $70,000 to $80,000 net.

Josh Toennessen, Indiana NRA Field Representative explains, "I cannot thank this team enough. Their hard work and dedication are unmatched. They have grown this event to elite status and continue to push the bar higher each year. The Falls of the Ohio committee exemplifies the very best of what the Friends of NRA is about. I am truly honored to be a part of their team."

With passion, teamwork, and a commitment to excellence, the Falls of the Ohio Friends of NRA committee continues to set the standard for success. We’re incredibly grateful to this dedicated committee, and we hope their success inspires others to get involved, whether by volunteering or attending a Friends of NRA event in their own community!
