For more than three decades, Friends of NRA has been bringing communities together in support of a shared mission: preserving our hunting and shooting heritage while advancing firearm safety, education, training, and youth programs. Today, that mission has reached a remarkable milestone as Friends of NRA celebrates reaching more than 5 million attendees through events held across the country.

Those 5 million attendees represent far more than a number. They represent families, first-time shooters, lifelong hunters, volunteers, sponsors, and supporters who have become part of the Friends of NRA story. Every event has created new friendships, strengthened communities, introduced future generations to the shooting sports, and inspired individuals to invest in programs that make a lasting difference. Over the past 34 years, Friends of NRA has done more than fill banquet halls. It has built a nationwide community united by a shared commitment to protecting our heritage and supporting the future of the Second Amendment.

The Friends of NRA story began in 1992 when a small group of NRA supporters in Columbia, Missouri, came together with a simple idea: host a fundraising event to support NRA grant programs and give local communities a way to make a difference. Looking around the room, one volunteer remarked, "This is a room full of friends. Why not call it Friends of NRA?" The name stuck, and what started as one local event quickly grew into one of the nation's largest grassroots fundraising programs.
Today, Friends of NRA hosts volunteer-led events in all 50 states, welcoming hundreds of thousands of attendees each year. Since its founding, the program has hosted thousands of community fundraising events, raised more than $1.2 billion in gross revenue, and funded thousands of grants benefiting youth organizations, firearm safety education, marksmanship training, and local community programs. The success of Friends of NRA is measured not only by dollars raised, but by the opportunities created for young people, the education provided to new shooters, and the countless communities strengthened through these investments.

"Five million attendees represents so much more than a number," said Sarah Engeset, Director of Volunteer Fundraising. "It represents millions of conversations, friendships, volunteer hours, and memories created at Friends of NRA events across the country. This milestone is a celebration of everyone who has supported this program and helped make a lasting impact in their communities."
At the heart of Friends of NRA is its incredible volunteer network. From the earliest days of the program to today, dedicated committee members have donated countless hours to organizing events, building relationships, and creating memorable experiences that keep supporters coming back year after year. Their passion ensures that funds raised are reinvested through Friends of NRA grants, helping local organizations provide youth opportunities, safety education, marksmanship training, and programs that preserve America's rich shooting sports traditions.

While reaching 5 million attendees is an extraordinary accomplishment, it is also a reminder of the millions of people Friends of NRA has inspired and the communities it has helped strengthen along the way. Every handshake, every shared meal, every auction item, and every dollar raised has helped build stronger communities and support programs that will benefit generations to come.
As Friends of NRA looks ahead, its mission remains unchanged: bringing people together, strengthening communities, and investing in programs that promote firearm safety, education, training, and the future of the shooting sports. Together, attendees, volunteers, sponsors, and donors continue building a legacy that will inspire generations to come. The next five million lives reached begin with the same spirit that started it all in 1992—a room full of friends committed to making a difference.
