Since 1990, The NRA Foundation has awarded more than $509 million in support of over 65,000 grants nationwide. These grants provide critical funding to qualified nonprofit organizations, helping to ensure access to high-quality firearms education and training programs. From youth education and law enforcement training to hunter safety, conservation, and marksmanship instruction, The NRA Foundation empowers communities to promote safe, responsible firearms ownership.
Each year, The NRA Foundation allocates 50% of all net proceeds from local Friends of NRA events, along with 50% of net proceeds from national NRA Foundation events, for use within the state where the funds were raised. Friends of NRA volunteers are appointed to State Fund Committees who then make recommendations on how the local grant funding is dispersed. The other half is used by The NRA Foundation to fund operations and projects at the national level, such as Youth and Women’s Programs, Range Services, Eddie Eagle Gunsafe program, and more.
According to Ruthann Sprague, Assistant Director of NRA Foundation Grant Outreach & Strategy, “In 2024, over $8.8 million was awarded to qualified nonprofit organizations through The NRA Foundation State Fund Grant Program. As America’s leading charitable organization in support of the shooting sports, we are dedicated to serving the needs of freedom-loving Americans, preserving the core of our American values and traditions, and Teaching Freedom across this great nation.”

Each year, thousands of student athletes gather in Mason, Michigan to compete in the largest youth clay target shooting sports program in the country! Thanks to a grant provided by The NRA Foundation, the USA High School Clay Target League National Championship continues to grow, giving young shooters the opportunity to showcase their skills. In 2024, over 53,000 students participated in the League, with the top 10 male and female athletes taking home awards.
Thanks to funding from The NRA Foundation, the Michigan Air Rifle Association trailer is hitting the mark! This trailer, supported by NRA Foundation grants, is a big hit at Trap events and Kids Days, giving youth the chance to shoot for free.
Over the past three years thanks to Friends of NRA fundraising, the NRA Foundation has proudly awarded $752,000 to USA Shooting, fueling the development of future champions.
“As USA Shooting celebrates its 30th anniversary this year, the support from the NRA Foundation is more impactful than ever,” said Kelly Reisdorf, CEO of USA Shooting. “Their continued investment has strengthened the pathway for emerging athletes, expanded development opportunities, and helped prepare the next generation of competitors for success at the highest levels. The NRA Foundation’s partnership is instrumental in our journey toward success at the LA28 Olympic and Paralympic Games and beyond.”
The Hilo High Vikings Air Riflery Team, based out of Hilo, Hawaii, received a $15,000 NRA Foundation grant for new equipment—including air rifles, scopes, and stands. The team had a standout season, winning both the boys’ and girls’ BIIF titles, with 11 members qualifying for the state championships!
The Montgomery County Constables in Texas were awarded five NRA Foundation grants totaling over $13,600 to support the purchase of much-needed ammunition for their offices. These funds help ensure their deputies are equipped and trained to protect the communities they serve.
The Durham County Wildlife Club in North Carolina received a grant for over $2,390 in ammunition for a Women On Target® Instructional Shooting Clinic where women gained hands-on experience with archery, pistol, rifle, and shotgun, many for the very first time.
More examples of Grants awarded in the past year:
- The Marathon High School Trap Team based out of New York received 25 flats of 12 gauge shells valued at over $2,400, which helped fuel a successful spring season.
- The Terrebonne Parish Junior Deputy YHEC Shooting Team from Houma, Louisiana was awarded over $6,200 in funding to support their program. The team had 40 youth athletes train to compete at NRA Nationals in Arkansas in July.
- Ketchikan Junior Shotgun League (KJSL) from Alaska was awarded $13,640 to support travel expenses and provide shotgun shells for both the AK State and Southeast Tournaments. The team traveled to Anchorage to compete in the AKYESS 2025 State Championship, taking on events like American Trap, Doubles, Wobble Trap, American Skeet, Doubles Skeet, and Sporting Clays. KJSL brought home the win in the HAA Combined Novice/Intermediate Division with a team score of 903 (based on the top three athlete scores).
- Fontana High School Marine Corps JROTC based out of Fontana, California received an NRA Foundation grant valued at over $3,300 in equipment and supplies. With that support, three of their four marksmanship teams qualified for the Marine Corps JROTC National Marksmanship Competition in February.
- The NRA Foundation awarded two grants to the Crawford County Sportsmen’s Council Inc. in Guys Mills, Pennsylvania to help fund ammunition for the Maplewood High School trap team and supplies for the Crawford County Youth Conservation Camp. Bob Schoenfeldt, President of the Council stated, "We may not change the world by working with our youth, but we might just change one youth’s world. Our camp would not have come to fruition without the assistance from the NRA Foundation, considering the equipment and supplies we have been granted, including ammunition for the Maplewood High School Trap Team.”
- Burnet County’s Stone Hill 4-H in Marble Falls, Texas received over $3,500 in grant merchandise, including a Feinwerkbau 800X Air Rifle (competition-ready), LED Digital Range Timer/Clock, and Eley Match .22 LR Ammunition. This grant benefited 54 youth, providing more opportunities for young athletes to learn, train, and compete in shooting sports.
