The Central Oregon Youth Safari Challenge was held at the Central Oregon Shooting Sports Association (COSSA) Park east of Bend, on June 28, 2015.

Approximately 155 kids, between the ages of 5 and 18, shot BB guns, pellet guns, rimfire 22 rifles, lever-action centerfire rifles, archery equipment, air soft guns and shotguns. Some parents were able to try shooting for the first time too. Total attendance was, with parents, grandparents, volunteers, approximately 325 people.

Most of the participants were from Central Oregon, but several families traveled in from out of the area. The kids were not required to have any prior experience with guns, shooting or hunter education. Indeed, our highest goal with the YSC is to introduce newcomers to the sport before they take hunter education.

This was the tenth year for the Youth Safari. We cannot state enough how much we appreciate the Oregon Friends of NRA and the NRA Foundation. This extends to all the people that show up at the various fundraising banquets each season.

Other sponsors included Fred Meyer, COSSA Kids, Pine Mountain Posse, Nosler Shooters Pro Shop, Alpen Optics, Crosman, National Wild Turkey Federation, Competitive Edge Archery, Gary Lewis Outdoors and Kristy Titus Outdoors.
