NRA Senior Field Representative
for Northern Illinois

From NRABlog.com - February 18, 2009

Nicole McMahon: What geographic area do you cover?

Mike Huber: I covered all of Illinois until January of 2007, when we split the territory and hired a new Field Representative for the southern half of the state. My new area, Northern Illinois, extends down to the counties along US Route 136 that passes through Illinois from western Hancock County to Iroquois County that borders Indiana.

NM: When was the start of your career as a NRA Field Rep?

MH: February 14, 1995

NM: What drew you to the job?

MH: I became involved with Friends of NRA in 1993 as a Committee Chairman. I had long been a strong supporter of NRA and the freedom it stands for, and I was fortunate when an opportunity became available to work for an organization I felt so strongly about.

NM: What is the most unique part about the area you represent?

MH: I cover an area that runs the spectrum from rural America to a major Metro area. It incorporates a real cross-section of the USA.

NM: What would you say is your average traveled miles per year?

MH: I have averaged 50,000 miles a year for most of my career. That means almost 700,000 miles since I started in 1995!

NM: What is the best part of your job?

MH: From the many great volunteers I work with, to the other NRA Field Representatives and employees, it is working with other people that are dedicated to our American values, and the 2nd Amendment that keeps us free.

NM: Do you have a particularly memorable story about a banquet from your area?

MH: There are many memorable stories, but if I were to pick one, it would be the very first event I worked with as NRA Field Representative in Casey, IL. It had been a very wet spring in a farming community; many people weren't able to attend due to still being in the fields. We only had 60 people at the banquet - down from 250 the previous year. Not a very great start, but we still made money for the program!

NM: Is there anything else about your experience you’d like to share?

MH: It is an honor and a privilege to work for NRA and the many dedicated volunteers who work so tirelessly to support the 2nd Amendment. I am proud to work with them and for such a great American institution as the NRA.
